หลายคนสงสัยว่าไวน์จะมีประโยชน์ได้อย่างไร ทั้งๆที่เป็นเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ ก็เพราะว่าในไวน์แดงนั้นประกอบไปด้วยสารที่มีชื่อว่าเรสเวอราทรอล (Resveratrol), คาเทชิน (Catechin), เอพิคาเทชิน (Epicatechin) และโปรแอนโทไซยานิดิน (Proanthocyanidin) นั่นเองค่ะ ซึ่งเรสเวอราทรอล (Resveratrol) เป็นสารประกอบที่สกัดจากพืช (phytoalexin) ซึ่งจัดเป็นโพลีฟีนอล (polyphenol) ชนิดหนึ่งในกลุ่ม stilbene และสารชนิดนี้ก็จะพพบอยู่ในไวน์ขาวเช่นกันนะคะแต่จะมีอยู่ในปริมาณที่น้อยกว่าไวน์แดงเท่านั้นเองค่ะ ก็เพราะว่าในระหว่างกระบวนการผลิตไวน์นั้น ยิ่งเปลือกขององุ่นเนี่ยอยู่กับตัวองุ่นนานเท่าไหน ความเข้มข้นของเรสเวอราทรอลในไวน์ก็ยิ่งมากขึ้นเท่านั้น แต่ในส่วนของการผลิตไวน์ขาว เปลือกขององุ่นจะถูกกำจัดออกไปและเราก็จะคัดเอาเฉพาะส่วนที่เป็นน้ำองุ่นไปใช้ในการหมัก เพราะอย่างนั้นในไวน์ขาวจึงมีปริมาณเรสเวอราทรอลน้อยกว่าไวน์แดงนั่นเองค่ะ ส่วนโปรแอนโทไซยานิดิน (Proanthocyanidin) ที่อยู่ในเมล็ดองุ่นนั้นใครจะรู้ล่ะว่าเป็นสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระที่มีฤทธิ์ต้านอักเสบได้อย่างเหลือเชื่อเชียวแหละ เพราะงั้นจึงลดความเสียหายต่อดีเอ็นเอ ไหนจะช่วยกำจัดอนุมูลอิสระ และป้องกันเนื้อเยื่อสมองและตับจากปฏิกิริยาออกซิเดชันได้ดีกว่าสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระชนิดอื่นๆเชียวล่ะค่ะ

3. ลดและป้องกันมะเร็ง
สาร Reservatrol เป็นสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระชนิดหนึ่งซึ่งพบได้ในองุ่น ผลราสเบอร์รี ถั่วลิสง และพืชอื่นๆ มีหลักฐานว่า เรสเวราทรอลนั้นลดอนุมูลอิสระและลดอัตราการเกิดมะเร็งในสัตว์ทดลอง รวมทั้งลดการเจริญเติบโตของมะเร็งในถาดเพาะเชื้อได้ นอกจากนั้นยังลดสารเอ็นเอฟ แคปปา บี (NF kappa B) ซึ่งเป็นโปรตีนที่สร้างโดยระบบภูมิคุ้มกันที่ถูกกระตุ้นอีกด้วยค่ะ
4. ลดปริมาณคอเลสเตอรอล
เป็นที่ทราบกันดีว่าในไวน์แดง มีแทนนินหรือความฝาดที่มีสารบางชนิด ซึ่งนอกจากจะป้องกันการเกิดโรคหัวใจแล้ว ยังช่วยลดปริมาณคอเลสเตอรอลในเส้นเลือด ซึ่งคอเลสเตอรอลนี้เมื่อมีอยู่ในเส้นเลือดมาก ๆ จะทำให้เลือดไหลไปเลี้ยงหัวใจไม่สะดวก โดยเฉพาะคนที่อ้วนมากๆ
5. ช่วยในการย่อย

8. สุขภาพเหงือกและฟัน
ไวน์แดงมีคุณสมบัติต่อต้านแบคทีเรียในช่องปาก และนอกจากนี้งานวิจัย แสดงให้เห็นว่า สารโพลีฟีน เป็นสารธรรมชาติที่พบในเมล็ดองุ่นและไวน์แดงจะมีคุณสมบัติช่วยในการต้านการอักเสบที่เกิดจากการติดเชื้อแบคทีเรียของเหงือก หรือบอกได้ว่าจะป้องกันเหงือกอักเสบนั่นเองค่ะ
9. ช่วยป้องกันหวัด
นักวิจัยสเปนได้พบว่าประโยชน์ของไวน์แดงนั้นดีต่อสุขภาพอีกอย่างหนึ่งคือ สามารถช่วยป้องกันหวัดได้ นักวิจัยได้กล่าวอีกว่าส่วนประกอบที่มีอยู่ในไวน์แดงนั่นแหละที่อาจมีคุณสมบัติช่วยป้องกันหวัด โดยก่อนหน้านั้นศูนย์โรคหวัดแห่งมหาวิทยาลัย คาร์ดีฟ เคยมีรายงานว่า คุณสมบัติของสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระ หรือสารแอนตี้ออกซิแดนท์อาจทำให้ไวน์แดง สามารถป้องกันหวัดได้นอกจากนี้ปัจจัยด้านการดำรงชีวิต เช่น การจิบไวน์แดงที่บ้าน แทนที่จะเป็นตามผับที่มีผู้คนมากมายก็อาจเป็นปัจจัยหนึ่งที่ช่วยป้องกันหวัดได้ ซึ่งในขณะที่คุณสมบัติเหล่านี้ไม่มีในพวกเบียร์และน้ำอื่นๆ โดยที่ผลการศึกษาดังกล่าวนี้ได้มาจากการศึกษาอาสาสมัคร 4,000 คน เป็นเวลา 1 ปีโดยผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากมหาวิทยาลัย 5 แห่งพบว่า ผู้ที่ดื่มไวน์แดงมากกว่าวันละ 2 แก้ว เป็นหวัดน้อยกว่าคนที่ไม่ได้ดื่มไวน์เลยถึงร้อยละ 44 และการดื่มไวน์แดงเพียงวัน 1 แก้วก็สามารถป้องกันหวัดได้แล้วค่ะ
